The four-hour pocket workshop is aimed at people who already moderate film talks or would like to prepare for them. The workshop aims to sharpen our awareness of right-wing attitudes and narratives. Because when we lead discussions or moderate a public dialogue, we are increasingly exposed to problematic statements and arguments. These can be discriminatory statements, narratives of the extreme right or conspiracy ideologies. These statements and narratives can be openly named, but are also increasingly appearing as supposedly harmless arguments. There is not always an inhuman worldview behind these statements, but they are nonetheless always problematic and contradict a free and united society. Dealing with such positions often leaves us feeling powerless.

In this workshop, participants will use their own problems, situations and questions to work out how they can organise moderation and discussion situations in line with a human rights-oriented and democratic world view.

This gives rise to the following questions, which will guide the workshop:

  • How do we deal with disruptions?
  • What is my personal stance and what is the stance of the organisation I speak for on discrimination and the far right?
  • Why do I feel powerless?
  • When can it be useful to use arguments to influence the other person? How do I talk to disruptive people?
  • How did extreme right-wing narratives become normalised? How do we prevent and recognise them at our events?

Other questions can also be included in the workshop. During the workshop, the group will work together to find answers using case studies, theoretical input and exercises to reflect on their own attitudes.

The aim of the workshop is to provide facilitators with clarity and confidence and to support them in taking a stance in challenging situations and thus combating the social sovereignty of interpretation and argumentation of extreme right-wing narratives.
