The ANALOG FILM LAB NRW is a meeting place for analogue enthusiasts and filmmakers of all disciplines who want to work and experiment with analogue film technology.
The second seminar in the Lab is a two-day, intensive and experimental workshop with and about the Super 8 phenomenon.

Super 8 is an extremely sexy material: it has unbeatable, deep blacks and grey tones that can never be achieved digitally. It is mysteriously blurred in places, naturally grainy, not 100% predictable and, if the filmmaker really extends her antennae and throws herself into the wabi-sabi, gets very close to the object, to the action, to the mood, to the section of the world.
The seminar will deal with the following questions and topics:
- Which cameras are available and how do they work?
- Old and new film material, how is what exposed and what is available on the market?
- What is a film emulsion?
- How is a short film made, how can I realise my little idea?
- Intuition, chance and the fun of the game
- Spontaneous filming in a small group
- Which lab still develops films and how can I develop them myself?
- What’s the story behind the mysterious “Caffenol”?
- How do I brew a developer soup, what ingredients do I need and why does it work so wonderfully?
- What comes after development, how do I get a digital copy for further processing?

Dagie Brundert studied Graphics and Experimental Film Design in Berlin and discovered her passion for Super 8 film in the late 1980s. Since then, she has taught herself everything she can, animating what she can, absorbing and releasing.
For many years, she has been on the trail of chance, beauty in the banal and wabisabi. Her universe is analogue pinhole camera photography and experimental Super 8 film. She develops both mostly in harmless and pleasantly scented substances and passes on all her experience and knowledge in workshops at home and abroad.
