with Jana Nestler and Maja Pilati

Date: Sat, 18.04. – Sun, 19.04.2026
Registration deadline: Sun, 05.04.2026
Target group: Beginners

In this workshop, participants discover the Bolex camera and 16 mm film. They film and develop the material with laboratory chemicals in the darkroom. They get to know the Bolex and receive an introduction to the camera and the handling of the material.

Aims of the workshop:

  • Participants will learn how to load a roll of film and how the camera works.
  • Small sets are set up for the shots and filming is done outside with a light meter.
  • The participants think up short scenes and act them out.
  • The handling of the chemicals is practised and the films are developed in the developing tank – reversible and in black and white.

The finished film is digitised and then sent to the participants.

The workshop is aimed at filmmakers, artists, performers, musicians and anyone interested in the interface between film, art and performance. Previous knowledge is welcome, but not required.

The seminar can also be offered in English or bilingual German-English as required.
