The documentary film “Weltklasse Kreisklasse” gives an insight into the world of Genclikspor Recklinghausen, a Turkish football club in the Ruhr region.
The film was produced by Fietscher Film and the Filmwerkstatt Münster. It was also supported by the Film und Medien Stiftung NRW
and the Sparkasse Vest Recklinghausen
Genclik, as supporters and members call their club, is located in Recklinghausen Südstadt, an area that displays all the symptoms of a structurally weak Ruhr district: abandoned shops, dilapidated residential buildings, derelict industrial sites and, finally, a high proportion of migrants of Turkish origin. However, they bring new life to the district not only through kebab stands and mobile phone shops, but above all through “their” football club.

Daniel Huhn and his team accompany the club and its members over the course of a season – with all the ups and downs that a club (and its members) go through. At the beginning there are goals, hopes and plans, then come crises, followed by successful times and at the end: promotion? The relegation?
