Schokofahrt

At a time of intense ecological concern, around one hundred cyclists set off on a long-distance ride on cargo bikes to demonstrate an alternative to environmentally harmful forms of food transport and distribution.

From Münster to Amsterdam and back, they transport chocolate bars to the shops – a completely fossil-free trade that begins with a sailing ship from the Caribbean. This road movie on two wheels delves into their adventure, addresses key issues of transport and pollution in the 21st century and shows the rediscovery of the cargo bike as an alternative means of transport on the way to a more sustainable future. in Amsterdam. They bring back thousands of bars of chocolate, whose cocoa beans were transported across the Caribbean Sea on a sailing ship and then processed using solar energy.
The film follows a community of cargo cyclists from Münster who started the chocolate journey ten years ago: Nikolai Wystrychowski, Rainer Hovelmann and Lea Radtke prepare for the tour and tell the story of how it all began and became an important event. A moving camera first documents the planning and then accompanies them on the 500 kilometre route, right into the middle of the peloton.
