It is a film about the Bauer brothers from Berlin: Conny Bauer, who celebrated his 80th birthday in June 2023, is one of the co-founders of free jazz in (East) Germany and is a globally recognised luminary on the trombone, as is his brother Johannes Bauer, who died in May 2016 at the age of 62. The third brother, Matthias Bauer, has made a name for himself internationally in the world of improvised music on the double bass.
In addition to other formations, they played together with Conny Bauer’s son Louis Rastig in the quartet ‘Bauer 4’ from 2006.
In the documentary, the musicians talk about their families, their musical careers, the development of improvised music in (East) Germany and their musical ideas – but above all, they make music together.
