We are Faheem & Karun on 12 October/ online discussion with director Onir

Screening at the Schloßtheater – in collaboration with the Indian Film Club Münster, followed by an online discussion with director Onir.

In collaboration with the Indian Film Club Münster, filmclub münster will be screening the 2024 Indian feature film “Faheem & Karun” by director Onir on Monday 12 October 2026 at 7 pm at the Schloßtheater. Through the lens of a romance between men, Onir explores the complex realities behind prejudice, as well as the countless factors that make each of us who we are.

Karun, a young soldier from southern India, is stationed in Kashmir near the Pakistani border: his job is to patrol the road leading to the Muslim village. There he meets Faheem, a young local, whose smile enchants Karun.

Faheem – bound by the social taboos surrounding homosexuality within the context of his religion – cannot live openly; Karun, for his part, must also conceal his true self due to the constraints of his profession. The film explores the tension between love, identity and oppression in a region rife with conflict.

But just as the two grow closer, almost without exchanging a word, and forget the taboos of their cultures, gunshots ring out in the distance.

The Indian filmmaker, producer, screenwriter and editor Onir was born in Bhutan. He rose to fame with his film “My Brother… Nikhil” (2005). The screening will be followed by an online discussion with him.

Director: Onir, India 2024, 81 min., rated for all ages (FSK 0). Cast: Akash Menon, Mir Tawseef, Mir Salman, Sana Javeid, and others.
