The Münster-based author and filmmaker Marc Pierschel (BUTENLAND, The End of Meat) is shooting his debut feature film MATILDA. Together with his film production company Antimae Film, filming began in Münsterland on Tuesday, 5 August 2025. MATILDA was filmed over 16 days in Sendenhorst & Münster. Filming locations included the Alte Pastorat in Sendenhorst, the Haus Strohbücker inn and the industrial estate in Hiltrup Münster.
On the evening of 27 August 2025, the MATILDA film team finished filming, at least in the Münsterland region, and in the evening the last take was shot in Sendenhorst, Bösensell.
On Friday, 29 August 2025, filming began immediately in Kollnburg (Bavaria) around Lebenshof Erdlingshof e.V. with Ella the cow as Matilda. A total of four days were spent filming there with Hannah Schiller, Sascha Nathan and Ella.
The film will be released in cinemas by Cologne-based distributor mindjazzpictures in 2026.
The leading role of the character Anna is played by the well-known film and television actress HANNAH SCHILLER (Tatort, Eine fremde Tochter, JERKS, Club der Dinosaurier, Die Discounter). The father Robert is played by actor SASCHA NATHAN (Gerry Star, Im Westen nichts Neues, Die Wannseekonferenz, Babylon Berlin).
The film tells the story of young Anna Scholz – who has taken over the household since the death of her mother and looks after her father Robert, who is struggling with depression and health problems. Their fragile relationship is characterised by repressed memories of her mother. Anna finds a cow that has escaped from the slaughterhouse and initially helps it, but the animal injures itself and flees. Despite her efforts, despair, lack of sleep and nightmares drive Anna into a crisis, where dreams and reality begin to blur and she is increasingly forced to confront her repressed past.
ANTIMAE FILM is a film production company from Münster. Steffi Köhler and Marc Pierschel have set themselves the goal of producing authentic films that inspire, move and empower. Their fictional and non-fictional material deals with discourses of social change and marginalisation as well as the visualisation of people. They also aim to critically scrutinise the film-making process. In 2023, Köhler & Pierschel received a Mediengründerstipendium NRW.
MATILDA is a co-production of Antimae Film and Filmwerkstatt Münster.
