The Cinema Ost film festival successfully entered its third round! Under the motto Shades of the Past, they presented five selected films as well as a reading with the Ukrainian filmmaker and author Iryna Tsilyk.

Eastern Europe in the mirror of film | Shades of the past

16 to 30 March 2025

The Cinema Ost film festival has come to an end and, with its films from Ukraine, Latvia, Georgia and Russia, opened a window to the hitherto little-known cultures of these countries and their history.

The opening with “The Master and Margarita” was a complete success with a sold-out house and an exciting online film talk with August Diehl Max Neumann

The visit to Münster by Ukrainian author and filmmaker Iryna Tsilyk was particularly impressive and moving. With her documentary film “The earth is blue like an orange” and a reading from her poetry collection “Thin ice”, she spoke vividly about the horrors of everyday life during the war in Ukraine, but also about the resilience of the people living there.
