What does it mean? What does determination feel like? And what images tell that story?
What are we looking for?
Filmclub Münster is seeking films that explore the concept of determination from various perspectives. Show your determination and get involved! Send us your proposals via the online form by September 15, 2026, and help shape the Filmclub Münster program for 2027. We will cover the costs for film licenses, venues, and guest speakers for your film series. You will receive an honorarium for your curatorial and organizational work.
What do we mean by “determined”?
Determination describes the moment when an observation turns into a decision—and a decision into a stance. Yet it never emerges in isolation from the times. Societal changes, political upheavals, and personal experiences shape what we stand for, the stories we tell, and the perspectives that become visible. How do societal developments alter our understanding of taking a stand? Who can afford to act decisively or make themselves visible—and who cannot? When does art demand a clear position—and when does its strength lie precisely in embracing contradictions? Which films open up new perspectives on these questions?
What kind of films are we looking for?
Send us your suggestions for films that tell stories about decisions and their consequences, about responsibility and resistance, and about new beginnings, doubt, and change. We are interested in works that demonstrate determination yet offer no clear-cut answers. The focus is on the process of taking a stand—within society, in art, and in personal action.
What kind of films are we not looking for?
Please do not suggest films you have produced yourselves. Unlike film festivals where you can submit your own productions, our goal is to curate the annual program together with you—looking jointly at the past and present of cinema.
What do I need to submit?
Please send us your proposals—whether documentary, fictional, experimental, or hybrid—via our submission form by September 15, 2026. Clearly indicate how your proposals address the theme. Your submission may range from a concept for a single evening program (120 minutes) to a series of up to three evenings (3 x 120 minutes). filmclub münster will select approximately five proposals from the submissions received. If a collaboration goes ahead, all parties involved agree to abide by a code of conduct. You will receive a response regarding your proposals in 2026. The selected projects will be announced on www.filmclub-muenster.de and screened during 2027.
