NEW! filmclub münster: De BankroetJAZZ on 23.10.

In cooperation with deBuren, the filmclub münster presents a film screening with discussion and live music that spans a whole hundred years.

How can poetry be brought to life visually? The event is a tribute to the Flemish avant-garde poet Paul van Ostaijen, who caused a sensation with his volume of poetry Besetzte Stadt (1921).

Draughtswoman and illustrator Shamisa Debroey will talk about how she has created a new and highly topical visual representation based on van Ostaijen’s poetry.

The silent film De Bankroet Jazz by Frank Herrebout and Leo Van Maaren (NL, 2016, 43′), whose scenario was written by van Ostaijen a hundred years ago and which consists entirely of found material from the archive of the Amsterdam Film Museum, will also be shown.

With a live performance by the musical duo Teletext, who will share another new perspective with the audience. Van Ostaijen biographer Matthijs de Ridder, translator Anna Eble and Willem Bongers-Dek from deBuren will talk to Teletext about the creation of the music video and the song, which is also based on a poem by Paul van Ostaijen.

This event was conceived in cooperation with the Flemish-Dutch organisation deBuren and the Paul van Ostaijen Society. We would like to thank deBuren, the European Laboratory and the Flemish Foreign Office for their financial support.
