Midwife documentary on 23.10. at filmclub münster

Leila Kühni presents her documentary film “Hebammen – Auf die Welt kommen” on Mon 23.10. at the Schloßtheater

The everyday life of midwives takes place on the threshold where new life is born and sometimes life fades away. In her documentary film “Hebammen – Auf die Welt kommen” , Leila Kühni (photo above) shows various midwives accompanying couples during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period without judgement.

With Helena Bellwald, the film delves into the world of home birth. For her, birth is something natural. It works best when there is as little intervention as possible.

Lucia Mikeler is an attending midwife and goes to the hospital with the women for the birth. For her, the woman’s self-determination is paramount.

And Jeanette Gröbli, Sara Lehner and their team show the busy hospital routine. They accompany the women through the existential experience of childbirth with routine and empathy.

The film gives an intimate insight into the most natural thing in human history. It still fascinates us today, on the one hand as a miracle, on the other as a highly risky medical event.

Only rarely have I experienced so much humanity and love in the portrayal of a professional and working day in a film as here. (Hanspeter Stalder: der-andere-film.ch)

Leila Kühni is an alumni of the Masterschool Documentary Film of the Filmwerkstatt Münster with Horst Herz and has developed her first documentary film about a librarian in the Masterschool.
