Between proximity and distance: new voices in film 2026
Between Münster, the Münsterland region and international locations such as Namibia and Lebanon, stories are created that combine personal perspectives with global issues. The films in this year’s development funding programme are dedicated to people, their realities and the changes that shape their lives – closely observed and at the same time embedded in larger social contexts.
The Talents of the 2026 development funding programme have been selected: Daphne Klein, Jan-Niklas Thape, ElikemAyeke and Patrick Mitri. From a total of twelve submissions, the jury selected four projects that stood out for their artistic independence and thematic relevance.

With its development funding, Filmwerkstatt Münster is once again sending a clear signal in favour of strengthening up-and-coming filmmakers in 2026. In view of the high quality and diversity of the projects submitted, it was not easy for the jury to make a selection. In intensive discussions, the range of formats – from documentary and feature film projects to hybrid and experimental approaches – as well as the examination of current social and political issues were recognised in particular.
The jury, consisting of our members Jasper Rott, Christian Scholz and board member Lejla Aliev, met with management Anna Schlottbohm and Steffi Köhler at the Filmwerkstatt Münster on 28 February to make the final decisions.
The subsidised filmmakers receive financial support for the further development of their projects and are also given ongoing advice. They also have access to technical resources and can take part in the film workshop’s seminars free of charge.
The Talents will present their projects in person at the next regulars’ table for filmmakers on Tuesday, 16 June 2026 at neben*an and provide insights into their work.
With this funding, Filmwerkstatt Münster is once again emphasising its commitment to a lively, diverse and sustainably strengthened independent film scene in the region.
The project pool is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
