10 to 25 September 2022 | LITFILMS – Literature Film Festival

Insights into the LITFILM 2022 programme

The programme for LITFILM 2022 is ready:

MITTAGSSTUNDE by Lars Jessen, based on a novel by Dörte Hansen, opens the festival on 10 September 2022.

Sonja Heiss, Esther Kinsky, Thomas Wendrich, Sophie Kluge, Susanne Abel, Peter Prange, specials in honour of Stephen King and Ingmar Bergman, the International Literary Adaptation Competition and a special series dedicated exclusively to Indian literary adaptations: the programme for the second edition of the LITFILMS Literature Film Festival Münster (10 to 25 September 2022) is online.

“Turning points are at the heart of our 2022 programme,” says festival director Carsten Happe. It is these turning points in life that define almost every literary or cinematic narrative, and they are therefore the leitmotif of the second LITFILMS Literature Film Festival Münster, which will open up a wide variety of approaches to the interplay between literature and film over 16 days in September in Münster and the surrounding area.”

LITFILMS 2022 will show the work of horror grandmaster Stephen King, director Sonja Heiss will talk about her film adaptation of the bestseller WHEN WILL IT FINALLY BE LIKE IT NEVER WAS by Joachim Meyerhoff and bestselling author Susanne Abel will give a reading and talk to the audience. Film greats such as Ingmar Bergman and Pier Paolo Pasolini will be given their own stage, as will the art and craft of screenwriting.

The jury for the competition for the best literary adaptation includes director Sophie Kluge (GOLDEN TWENTIES), Helga Frese-Resch, Programme Manager for International Literature at Kiepenheuer & Witsch, and author and translator Christian Filips.

In its second edition, the festival programme once again features a wide range of 37 events, from classic adaptations from world literature to experimental approaches, from author portraits to installation works. “The 2022 programme is characterised by its versatility. For example, we are particularly pleased about the documentary film series from the world of books, including a film about Elfriede Jelinek, or the cooperation with the Indian Film Days 2022, which, in consultation with LITFILMS, focuses exclusively on literary adaptations,” says Festival Director Risna Olthuis.

Venues in 2022 will once again include the Schloßtheater Münster as the festival cinema, the LWL Museum of Art and Culture, the Cinema & Kurbelkiste and the Studiobühne.

The official award ceremony will take place on the last day of the festival – Sunday, 25 September – at 20:00 in the Schloßtheater Münster. The best film in the competition will be awarded prize money of 5,000 euros. All applicable hygiene regulations will be observed.
