1 Sept., Preview “Kein Brot ohne Spiele” by Susanna Wüstneck

with musical supporting programme, live performance by the musician puppets and subsequent film discussion (film starts at approx. 6.30 pm)

The country went quiet during the pandemic: dance halls were empty, clubs and cinemas only opened sporadically, event technicians swept their halls. For the two filmmakers Susanna and Guenther – themselves musicians and protagonists of the film – a time without live music began. Their thoughts were with their friends, the people for whom art is a vocation. They travelled all over Germany to find out how they were doing.

A road movie unfolds that is filled with the sounds and rhythms, the colours and the poetry of the “systemically relevant”. They report on their experiences during the crisis, talk about their worries and hardships, about ideas and dreams and provide answers to the questions of what it does to us when things go quiet. So where are we heading right now? Can art and culture be lost and will it have changed us when it’s over?
