The Filmwerkstatt Münster looks back on its first successful “Long Night of the Filmwerkstatt”.
This July evening was a very special one: for months, Vadim Ivanov and Lars Pätzold, volunteers at the Filmwerkstatt Münster, had been planning the first “Long Night of the Filmwerkstatt”. The aim was to bring the Filmwerkstatt team together as friends outside the office and organise a top-class film night. All guests submitted short films that they had produced over the course of the event.

The result was a colourful programme full of diverse films of all genres and from various years of production. They were shown in a real cinema atmosphere with a screen and projector in the garden. To ensure that the screenings were not interrupted by a rumbling stomach, hunger was banished beforehand with a barbecue.
After the event, we were able to have a short conversation with Vadim Ivanov. He is a filmmaker from Latvia, studied film in Riga with a focus on directing and has been working at the Filmwerkstatt Münster since March 2022. Together with Lars Pätzold, he created and curated the Long Night.
FiWe-Press: Vadim Ivanov, you are the organiser of this “Long Night of the Film Workshop”, what were your personal highlights of the evening?
Vadim Ivanov: I would say that every single film was my personal highlight. I was very happy to simply see the happy faces of my second family: The family called Filmwerkstatt Münster. I actually expected a lot of joy, but not so much love. The emotions that arose warmed my old heart.
How did this great idea of inviting guests to contribute their own films for the evening and thus play a key role in shaping the film evening come about?
At first, we just wanted to watch films together and couldn’t decide which ones, when and how for a long time. After much deliberation and lots of ideas, we decided to show our own films. We had never done this before and thought it would be a good opportunity to get to know each other better. Once the plan was set, we collected the films, chose the location and organised the event.
After this successful evening, are there any concrete plans to organise a continuation of the “Long Night of the Film Workshop”?
We naturally see yesterday evening as a great success. My co-partner in Lava Productions Lars Pätzold and I think that events like this should be continued in the film workshop and would like to improve our family life in the office even further. We already have various ideas and are working on developing and realising them. I think we can all look forward to this in the future.
Thank you very much for the interview!
