In 2023, the filmclub münster celebrates its 75th anniversary. This makes it the oldest film club still in existence in Germany! Few cultural programmes and institutions can look back on such a long history. We are taking the anniversary programme as an opportunity not only to show and discuss exciting films, but also to take a look at the history of filmclub münster and discuss the future of the film club movement.
As part of the ANNUAL THEME, we are taking up a central concept from the founding history of the film club. Under the title “Re-Orientation”, we want to show films that depict social processes of discovery and place them in relation to one another.
In the second series “FILMPLÄDOYER”, representatives of current and former partner institutions of the filmclub present a film that is important to them, advocate for it and discuss it with the audience.
As part of the FREIFLÄCHE, we show smaller series or individual screenings lasting several weeks. On the occasion of the film club’s anniversary, we want to present the formative connection with the students of Münster’s universities. Firstly, we will be showing the graduation films from the Master’s programme in Visual Anthropology, and secondly, we are planning to continue the “Law and Literature” series, in which students from the Master’s programme in Cultural Poetics will present and discuss films that deal with justice issues.
