How do we want to experience film (together)? Workshop and film weekend for the 75th anniversary of the Filmclub on 23/24 June at the Westfälischer Kunstverein
The filmclub münster is the oldest film club still in existence in Germany. 75 years after its foundation, almost to the day, the filmclub münster invited guests to the Westfälischer Kunstverein for a film club weekend to look back at its history and discuss the future of the film club.

Based on the exciting and eventful history of the filmclub münster and the current debates on the social significance of cinema, we want to spend two days discussing what makes film clubs unique as spaces – in order to finally explore together what their future could look like. The workshop is divided into two parts, which can also be attended individually:
23 June, 3-6 p.m.: The Münster Film Club and the City Society (led by Anna Schlottbohm and Dennis Vetter)
24 June, 3-6 p.m.: Perspectives on film club work in Germany (led by Dennis Vetter)

2 THE GOLD RUSH // GOLDRAUSCH – Saturday, 24 June 2023 | Westfälischer Kunstverein | 8:00 pm
Alaska 1898: During the gold rush, the Tramp (Charlie Chaplin) also plunges into the dangerous life of a gold prospector: hunger, cold, loneliness. A snowstorm sends him to a camp. There he meets the wanted scoundrel Black Larsen and the gold digger Jim. The bleaker the situation, the more amusing the tramp’s ideas. Gold Rush cost around one million US dollars at the time and grossed more than six million. The film was also received with great enthusiasm in this country. Even Chaplin himself attached special significance to this film within his oeuvre. “This is the film I want to see my name associated with forever,” the director later said. 75 years ago, this was the first film to be shown at filmclub münster. Now we are showing it again in a new guise!
