27 JUNE 2025 Kino aufs Land: SAERBECK

Bunker 11 e.V. will be the stage for a big open-air cinema evening on 27 June.

Kino aufs Land (engl. Cinema in the countryside) first stop: Saerbeck!

Grass grows on old bunkers – and an impressive “biotope” of solar and wind energy. What looks like the set of a science fiction film will become the stage for a large open-air cinema evening at the Saerbeck bioenergy park on 27 June.

In keeping with the location, we are showing GEGEN DEN STROM by Benedikt Erlingsson – an Icelandic comedy film that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 and was released in German cinemas on 13 December 2018. GEGEN DEN STROM is an ecological fairy tale that scrutinises – often humorously – the meaning and power of individual action in the face of the inertia of the authorities in the fight against climate change.

From 8 p.m., food and drink will be catered for: the barbecue will be fired up and cool drinks will be available. If you like, you can take part in an exciting guided tour of the site and the historic bunkers before the film starts – organised by the Bunker 11 e.V. cultural association.

The main film begins at sunset at around 10 pm.

Admission costs 5 euros in advance and 7 euros at the box office. Tickets are available in advance online at localTicketing and *on site at Buch & Mehr (Markstraße 28, 48369 Saerbeck) and at Atelier Buch & Kunst (Am Brink 4, 48282 Emsdetten) as well as at the box office.

The “Kino aufs Land” project is funded as part of the RKP – Regional Culture Programme NRW of the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia and by the LWL Cultural Foundation.

more information about the film:

Halla is fifty and an independent woman. But behind the façade of a leisurely routine, she leads a double life as a passionate environmental activist. Known by the alias “The Mountain Woman”, she secretly fights the national aluminium industry in a one-woman war. Her risky actions succeed in stopping negotiations between the Icelandic government and an international investor. But then the approval of an almost forgotten adoption application throws Halla’s straightforward plans out of step. Determined, she plans her last and boldest action as the saviour of the Icelandic highlands.

Benedikt Erlingsson already attracted international attention with his magnificent debut “Of Men and Horses”. Now the Icelandic director is back with a comedy that is as bone-dry as it is politically sharp-tongued. The staging of the breathtaking Icelandic scenery is beguiling and the leading actress Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir is a stunner. GEGEN DEN STROM wowed the audience at the Semaine de la Critique at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival and as the opening film at the Hamburg Film Festival. (Film rental)
