Kino aufs Land (engl. Cinema in the countryside) – next stop: Ostbevern!
On Thursday, September 18, Kino aufs Land (“Cinema in the Countryside”) will be stopping by the Ostbevern Kulturwerkstatt – in cooperation with the Ostbevern Cultural Forum. Here, too, we’ll be bringing the big screen to the heart of Münsterland and presenting a select short film program that showcases the creative diversity of our region.
A few days before the start of the Filmfestival Münster, a hand-picked selection of short films from the festival program will be shown, which covers a wide range in both thematic and formal terms: from poetic miniatures to dark comedies, from socially relevant material to imaginative narratives.
The focus of the films will be on works by filmmakers from the region. This will make the evening an encounter with artistic voices that are rooted here in Münsterland, but have long since also made an impact in the larger context of cinema. And for one evening, Ostbevern will become the showcase of this vibrant, creative scene.
For example, “Das ist keine Figur, das ist Verrat” (That’s Not a Figure, That’s Betrayal) by Romina Küper. In her film, the director, who herself hails from the region, tells the story of hairdresser Melanie, who accompanies her son Stefan, a young author, to the first reading of his autobiographical debut novel, “The Salon.” A mother and her son, separated by the shame of their origins, which actually unites them.
Dominik Wittrin dissects a different family situation in his short comedy “How to Kill Your Family”. While her family is still at church, Monika sets the table for Christmas dinner. She finally wants to go through with it: her coming out. But how do you start?
In Christian Hümbs-Steinbeck’s “Die Bücherhüter” (“The Bookkeepers”), we embark on a documentary journey through the fascinating world of antiquarians. In atmospheric images, he tells of the love of books and the value of stories in an age when so much seems digital and fleeting.
The program is rounded out by other films, including “Nelly’s Story” by Jonas Steinacker and the documentary portrait “The Moment I Closed You to My Heart” by Mustafa Khalafs; films that make the evening diverse, surprising, and profound at the same time.
Kino aufs Land (“Cinema in the Countryside”) stands for encounters: with films, with stories – and with the people behind them. Therefore, there will be an opportunity to talk to filmmakers present, ask questions, and delve deeper into the films through dialogue.
The screening starts at 8 p.m. Admission is €5. Tickets are available in advance online at localTicketing and *on-site at Löwenzahn Spielwaren (Hauptstraße 30a, 48346 Ostbevern) and at the Düring bookstore (Bahnhofstraße 6, 48346 Ostbevern), as well as at the box office.
