17 SEPT. 2025 Kino aufs Land: NOTTULN

Short film cinema in a historic setting in Nottuln on 17 September 2025.

Kino aufs Land (engl. Cinema in the countryside) – next stop: Nottuln!

On Wednesday, September 17, the traveling cinema project Kino aufs Land (“Cinema in the countryside”) will stop at the Alte Amtmannei (Old Court House) in Nottuln – bringing the rich diversity of short film to the historic ambience of the town. The team from the Filmwerkstatt Münster will travel through Münsterland with a screen, projector, and selected short films.

A few days before the start of the Filmfestival Münster, a hand-picked selection of short films from the festival program will be shown, which covers a wide range in both thematic and formal terms: from poetic miniatures to dark comedies, from socially relevant material to imaginative narratives.

The focus of the films will be on works by filmmakers from the region. This will make the evening an encounter with artistic voices that are rooted here in Münsterland, but have long since also made an impact in the larger context of cinema. And for one evening, Nottuln will become a showcase for this vibrant, creative scene.

For example, “Das ist keine Figur, das ist Verrat” (That’s Not a Figure, That’s Betrayal) by Romina Küper. In her film, the director tells the story of hairdresser Melanie, who accompanies her son Stefan, a young author, to the first reading of his autobiographical debut novel, “The Salon.” A mother and her son, separated by the shame of their origins, which actually unites them.

Dominik Wittrin dissects a different family situation in his short comedy “How to Kill Your Family”. While her family is still at church, Monika sets the table for Christmas dinner. She finally wants to go through with it: her coming out. But how do you start?

In Christian Hümbs-Steinbeck’s “Die Bücherhüter”(“The Bookkeepers”), we embark on a documentary journey through the fascinating world of antiquarians. In atmospheric images, he tells of the love of books and the value of stories in an age when so much seems digital and fleeting.

The program is rounded out by other films, including “Nelly’s Story” by Jonas Steinacker and the documentary portrait The Moment I Closed You to My Heart” by Mustafa Khalafs; films that make the evening diverse, surprising, and profound at the same time.

Kino aufs Land (“Cinema in the countryside”) is all about encounters: with films, with stories – and with the people behind them. This provides an opportunity to engage in conversation with filmmakers in attendance.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., program starts at 8:00 p.m. // Admission is €5. Tickets are available in advance online at localTicketing and *on-site at the town hall (Stiftsplatz 7/8, Nottuln) and the Stiftsbuchhandlung Esplör (Stiftsplatz 10, Nottuln), as well as at the box office.

The Kino aufs Land (“Cinema in the countryside”) project is funded by the RKP – Regional Culture Program NRW of the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia and by the LWL Cultural Foundation.
